The opportunity to work from home is highly coveted. Especially among moms who want to be home with their children. My experience helping business moms build their businesses has taught me that there are common character traits that help moms succeed when trying to run a home-based business. All 7 of these must have traits. You can’t be successful without them.
Discipline– This is the ability to give yourself an order and follow it. Successful, work-from-home moms work long, long hours. They work all night, while on vacation, even when sitting in the rows of the car pool.
Take risks– There are no guarantees in business (or in life). To be successful, recognize this and go after it anyway.
people skills– The ability to get along with people, the willingness to please without sacrificing, practicing patience and listening carefully.
Confidence– You must believe in YOU, even when others do not. Support from family and friends is good, but your biggest support should be YOU.
Motivation– You must be an entrepreneur and entrepreneur. Your decision to work from home must have an emotional/internal momentum that keeps you charged and moving forward even when money and clients are not available.
Administrative skills– The ability to organize, plan, schedule, compute, and communicate effectively.
Flexible– The ability to start (the day, a project, a business) with your ideas and plans and make adjustments along the way. He needs to be comfortable making decisions and taking charge, but he also needs to know when to sit back, listen, and go with the flow.
multitask– Working from home means answering two phones, juggling work and home schedules, sometimes taking care of children and clients at the same time. This should be done with calm and quick peace.
