Although laughter is a great stress reliever, do you laugh as much as you should?
Some laughter is a symptom of stress; do you know what type it is?
1) Laughter is good medicine. You’ve been told this for years. This is a very old cliché. Stress will decrease your desire to laugh. You get quite cynical and moody at times. Something that may have made you laugh in the past can now be overlooked with a roll of the eye. To make this medicine for laughter work, you first have to change your attitude and allow yourself to release some of the stress. By doing this, you will soon see the humor in a funny situation.
2) Laughter in the cinema. You should rent a movie or even go to a movie theater to see a movie that entertains you to the point that it makes you laugh. When you relax your thoughts enough to focus on the dialogue and images you see, you’ll lose stress on the good feelings of laughter.
3) Laughter from your pets. Your friends will share videos of their pets doing silly things. Place a soft sock gently over your cat’s head and you’ll have lots of silly exercise from your cat and lots of fun and laughter from you.
4) Laughter with children. Your children or someone else’s children can help you laugh again. Looking at a humorous situation through the eyes of a child, the uninhibited creative silliness of a young child will dissolve stress and bring smiles and fun to his thoughts.
5) Laugh at ourselves. At first this may seem very difficult for the grumpy old man. Learning not to take yourself so seriously is extremely important. Your ability to see your flaws and imperfections with a happier perspective will help you see that the situation you find yourself in may not be so important a few days or even a few weeks from now. Relax and allow yourself to laugh at yourself. A laugh will do wonders to eliminate all kinds of stress. You will also find that after a few deep breaths you will be able to think more clearly and you may have a solution that you were not thinking of before.
