Auction volunteers looking for creative ways to display jewelry in the silent auction will appreciate this approach.
Most of the time I see necklaces placed on a box. Sometimes it’s the same box the piece will be packaged in when it’s shipped home later with the winning bidder.
Boxes work pretty well, but I recently discovered a couple of other silent auction ideas that you could use for displays.
Anyone who has heard me speak knows that my background was working in corporate marketing and sales. I am always putting concepts from that area up for auction. This latest inspiration is no exception. In a recent catalog, I saw a couple of creative displays including a necklace in a large shell and a necklace wrapped around a vase.
shells for jewelry display
If you check with your volunteers, surely one of you has a large scallop shell at home. A beautiful scallop shell is a lovely way to frame an elegant necklace or bracelet. Wrap the necklace around the shell in a streamer fashion or place the clasp area of the necklace on the shell and let the piece randomly wind from the shell to the end of your silent auction table.
Likewise, I bet a conch shell could also make an attractive base for your silent auction display. You can use the raised, pointed parts of the shell to enhance a ring, bracelet, or other piece.
Using shells to present your jewelry would be especially appropriate if the theme of your auction is beach related.
Vases to present valuables
Who doesn’t have a pretty vase sitting at home? Let’s put it to work!
A tall vase will allow a long necklace to be displayed vertically. With some ribbon to secure the necklace around the neck of the vase, your old vase can now serve as a functional and pretty way to enhance a long string of pearls, stones or sparkling diamonds.
If your vase has a long, skinny neck, slip a bracelet or elastic ring over the top. This type of vase also serves to elevate jewelry closer to the eye level of your bidder.
Ultimately, we want to display your donated auction items in their best light. Your guests are visual creatures. When your items are attractively displayed, they look better and become more desirable. This translates into better deals for your items.
