We are constantly reminded of the facts about weight loss and dieting by the media, magazines, and even the government. Also, advertising standards authorities are putting fat content and caloric content on packaged products. We are constantly being bombarded by what is good for us and what is not good for us. All of this information we just don’t seem to be taking in as more and more of us have moved towards eating healthier food content.
We have many temptations in front of us, fast food joints, ice cream parlors, donut shops, and fish and chip shops. Because we are not changing our eating habits, more and more obese people are reported in the statistics of our society.
Fact and fiction of our diet
1) Low-fat foods don’t work. You won’t lose weight simply by eating a low-fat menu.
2) Low calorie diets don’t work. You may think that by reducing the number of calories in your diet you will lose weight. It is the burning of calories that helps you lose weight through exercise and the acceleration of metabolism. Since your body will not burn the calories, your body will retain them as fat. All it is accomplishing is the reduction of the water content within the muscles. Yes, this will show up on the scale as a reduction in weight, however once you finish your diet, the water retention will return to the muscles as before. Also, because muscle mass is reduced as water content is removed, muscles will not be able to burn excess calories. What will happen to your body on a low calorie diet is that your body adjusts to fewer calories and burns a proportionate amount and not more. Your body will reach a “weight plateau” and will not be able to take in any more water content from the muscles, so when you stand on the scale, no matter how much and for how long you continue to diet, you will not lose any more weight. A self-defeating diet plan.
3) Low-carb diets rob your body of vital carbohydrates needed for energy in the body. Without them, the longer you stay on this diet, the more tied up you become and the more miserable. As the body adjusts to the lack of a balance of carbohydrates it needs.
4) Low carb diets rob you of vital nutrients and supplements must be taken.
5) Weight Watchers diet programs tend to be long-term diet programs. Helping you lose weight over a longer period with the promise of losing just a few pounds of weight. They will tend to ask you to buy their dietary supplements to support their program and weight loss. So that’s more expense for you. Perhaps the social aspects of going to a class and dieting with others are more beneficial in helping with motivation.
6) Accelerated fat burning programs teach you to eat the right foods without cutting out the necessary proteins, carbohydrates, nutrients, vitamins, zinc and iron. These are probably the most well-crafted and well-thought-out diet plans from the experts, helping dieters lose weight long-term and lead a healthy lifestyle.
