Bow hunting does not mean just deer hunting, although deer hunting is the most popular big game hunting with bow in the United States and Canada. Many other big game hunts include elk, bear (spring and fall), elk, mountain sheep, mountain goat, and antelope. With all these different types of hunts, different types of bowhunting equipment are required. It requires a different camouflage or maybe bright orange and different styles of hunting boots for mountain climbing or highly insulated boots for extreme cold.
Backpacks or fanny packs to carry extra equipment needed for a particular style of hunting. Inside the backpack, you need to think about the necessary equipment, such as; survival gear, deer, elk and moose calls, knife, saw, extra clothing, binoculars or spotting scope and maybe for that long day a healthy lunch and snacks. A well thought out plan before your archery hunt will save you a lot of money and possibly a very disappointing experience. Shop online before your hunt, there are many great deals and many good ideas for the particular type of hunt you are about to undertake.
Not all bow hunting is big game either; Don’t forget about small game or vermin hunting. These different types of archery hunts may also require different types of equipment. If you are going to bow fish, you should have the right gear for that. Or how about a rabbit hunt? You may want to consider using a recurve bow or straight bow for small game hunting. Your arrows and points will also need to be changed for the particular type of game you are about to have.
If you’re going to hunt a coyote or bobcat, you need a good call, whether it’s a mouth call or a recording. You may want to consider a lure for this hunt. A turkey hunt also needs special attention such as; a blind or pop-up carp, different calls, lures and broadheads specially designed for turkey hunting. These are just a few ideas of the different types of equipment needed and they can all be purchased at your local dealership or you can make it easy on yourself and purchase them online. The internet has many more items to choose from and can be cheaper. I personally, along with many of my fellow hunters, shop on the Internet; it is much easier and more efficient.
Before you embark on your bow hunting, you need to practice, and to practice, you may need a target for your backyard. I have a few different goals in my backyard; a 3D target for turkeys and deer, a bag target, and also a block target that we take with us on a hunt just to fine tune and tune before the hunt.
Deer hunting is fun, but don’t forget about all the other different types of bow hunting you can do too. Many good experiences and fun come along with the different types of bowhunting you choose to do with your family and friends.
GOOD HUNTING!
