The increasing popularity of reality shows throughout the world has allowed these programs to appear on almost all television channels. With at least one live reality show on every channel at the moment, the high TRPs of these shows these shows represent have drawn the attention of many.
The main reason behind the success of these shows may be that these shows have real world people and real emotions instead of paid actors crying day and night. Participants are put into real-life situations to see what they go through and their reaction to a given event. However, there are times when participants feel like running away from restrictions and doing what they really want to do without any cameras following their every move.
One such reality show broadcast in Britain, namely “The Big Brother”, also became quite popular in India due to the issue of racial discrimination with Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty on its sets. The leggy Bollywood actress was subjected to racist slurs from the other three housemates, sparking outrage in India and Britain. But as we all know “All’s well that ends well”, Shilpa won the title and made her way into the hearts of the people.
Millions of Indians watch reality shows every day as most of them think that these shows help them realize that their lives are not so bad. These reality shows have greatly affected the lives of viewers. Audiences adhere to these shows as they help them escape from their own real lives. And obviously, these shows have slogans with varied themes to appeal to each and every age group.
Critics accuse the producers of reality shows that these are not so real and that most of the scenes are manipulated than we think. They say the pressure to get optimal TV ratings forces them to make the show more interesting.
